A piano's type and weight drive almost everything about the move. Here's what changes as the instrument gets bigger:

  • Crew size — The extra crew is about weight and control, not size — a spinet takes two movers, a full upright three or four, and a large grand as many as six. The added hands keep a heavy, top-heavy instrument under full control up and down the truck ramp and on stairs, and take the strain off both the crew and the piano.
